Do you want to teach your child how to count? We got it all wrapped as a gift for you! There are different counting methods that parents homeschooling their kids could depend on and this is one that is suitable for the ages between 3 and 6, kindergarten, preschool, ks1, foundation stage and grade 1.

Counting is the first step taken in the world of math and sometimes kids learn to count through playing some games, which is the work of the parents and the creative lesson ideas they will manage to get up with. In this educational video, the lesson will be about teaching the kids to count through using their toys.

Divide yourself into two groups – the parent as a group and the kid as the second – and bring two huge plastic cups for every single one to use one of them in order to place the objects inside. Every single one will choose the objects that he/she wants or loves the most – in our case it was all about the small characters for James and the Lego blocks for me.

Bring a dice and let the kid throw it first and the number that he/she will get is the number of monsters that he/she should throw inside the plastic cup. This will happen in turn between the kid and the parent and the one getting the bigger number at the end of the game will be the winner.

For choosing the dice, there are two different options and this will always depend on the child and the level he/she have reached at school, it could be the dice with dots instead of the numbers so that the kid could count them and there is also the one with the numbers written down for those who count recognize the numbers easily ().

While the kids are placing their objects inside the plastic cup, parents should ask them along the way how many do they have inside to see whether the kids are keeping up with the numbers they are adding up inside the cup or else not and also let the kids learn how to add things up and learn to count ().

In order to see whether the kids are paying attention to the steps taken throughout the game or else not, you should make a mistake along the way and see what they are going to see and how they will tell you to solve the question – you mind find that they are changing the rules of the game for the mistake you have made! It is also important to ask the kids to count along with you when you are counting your pieces as some kind of help and at the same time to let them practice ().

Such games will give the child more self confidence when they find themselves winning the game and counting correctly and they will be also looking forward to the challenge of winning the game and letting their parents be the losers. Another important thing is to give the child the chance to be the one in control and count along with you when you are counting to give them the chance to practice and at the same time give them the feeling that they are the correct ones to check on what you are doing.

Parents should never worry about the time their kids might be taking to learn a new lesson because they will eventually get there and learn everything. Children are not the same when it comes to learning, so some might take longer in a specific lesson than others, but they all get there at the end and learn the lesson delivered to them, they just need a little bit of more practice.
